NEW ORLEANS — Dec. 8, 2014 — Research shows that students with involved parents do better in school, have higher attendance, turn in their homework, and have better attitudes. To help schools build stronger relationships with families, Kickboard announces the newest addition to its software, the Parent Student Portal. By offering families easy access to reports of student behavior and progress on learning objectives, teachers can establish ongoing communication and help parents take a greater role in their child’s education.
The Kickboard Parent Student Portal provides an easy way for parents and students to receive real-time updates about students’ success in school using a computer or mobile device. The Academic section of the portal allows them to access the student’s course grades. Missing Assignments alerts them to any assignments the student has not turned in. The Behavior section provides a summary of the student’s merits and demerits, and more.
“Previously, our teachers communicated with parents through quarterly progress reports and report cards, but they didn’t often communicate between those times unless there was an issue to be resolved,” said Shanna Rae, co-principal of Billingsville Elementary, part of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina. “With Kickboard, we now send home weekly progress reports. As a result, our communication with parents has easily increased 95 percent. We think the Parent Student Portal will further empower parents to become even more involved in their child’s education. Our teachers are excited about the portal because it will save them time by making academic and behavioral information readily accessible to parents. It will also help parents better prepare for parent-teacher conferences, since they can see how their child is progressing in real-time and come prepared with questions and topics for discussion.”
Using the Kickboard Parent Student Portal, schools can easily create letters to send home to parents with instructions for account creation and their unique access code. Schools also have the flexibility to manage parent access. If a parent does not want their child’s data to be accessible, the school can remove a student from the portal and their information will no longer display on the account.
The Kickboard instructional management solution is a central hub of classroom data. Using the web-based platform, teachers can develop 360-degree profiles of student performance, including grades, standards mastery, reading growth, prescribed interventions, attendance and, most uniquely, student behavior and character strengths. Dashboard-to-detail reporting provides easy-to-understand, actionable information to better drive instructional decisions. In addition, teachers can easily create customized weekly progress reports and report cards that provide consistent, meaningful updates to students and parents.
The Kickboard instructional management solution gives K-12 educators the tools to quickly establish consistent practices for effective classroom management school- and district-wide. Using the highly configurable, web-based platform, educators can create a performance-based culture that leads to sustainable school improvement and long-term student success.
