New Orleans-based company is the maker of the Kickboard software.
NEW ORLEANS — Dec. 3, 2014 — Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the Louisiana Innovation Council selected Kickboard, developers of the award-winning instructional management solution of the same name, as an honoree during Louisiana Innovation Month in November.
As part of the Innovation Month campaign, LED and the Louisiana Innovation Council recognized Kickboard and more than two dozen creative Louisiana-based organizations that have developed innovative products and practices to propel them to success in their respective fields. As an honoree, Kickboard will be featured on the LED website, OpportunityLouisiana.com, and in an upcoming issue of EQ, the Louisiana Economic Quarterly.
Kickboard founder and CEO Jennifer Medbery came to New Orleans three years after Hurricane Katrina as a Teach for America participant with a degree in computer science from Columbia University. It was while she was teaching at a New Orleans charter school that she realized that she and her colleagues needed a way to make better real-time instructional decisions based on data that showed which skills students knew, which they had yet to master, and how student behavior impacted academic achievement. “New Orleans is where I developed the idea for Kickboard,” said Medbery. “Then, when I left the classroom to build the Kickboard instructional management solution and began testing it in local schools, I decided this is where we should base the company. We’re excited to be a part Louisiana’s thriving software development industry and to be recognized as an honoree during Louisiana Innovation Month.”
“Louisiana has had a rich history of producing and supporting innovators who have brought significantly greater value to their companies, communities and the state,” said Louisiana Innovation Council Chairman Les Guice. “Louisiana Innovation Month gives us the opportunity to shine a light on a few of those who are having a significant impact today and are inspiring others to be our innovators of tomorrow.”
